Suggested activities to reduce your knowledge gap in section 2
Basic Understanding : 0-16
Enquire within your business to gain an understanding of all the main relationships between the performance team and other functions of the business . Include all the contractual interfaces that influence performance improvements such as those governed by regulatory or governmental bodies or reciprocal groups such as local / route task forces .
Moderate Understanding : 17-34
Establish the systems used to measure and manage performance data within your company . Review your company ’ s recent performance data and identify the short term and long term performance trends . Consider the three main factors that have had an impact on this . Assess the main causes of poor performance and identify actions that could be taken to improve this . Consider other organisations that may be involved in performance improvement .
Good Understanding : 35-51
Interview one of your company ’ s managers , who is considered to be a thought leader on performance , in order to learn what works well . Consider how your planning department has balanced the needs for good utilisation of rolling stock and train crew with the needs for good performance . Ask to visit the planners to see how timetables are created – even the very short term ones created in control will help you understand this . Read the Risk Management Maturity Model for Performance ( RM3P ).
