Academic Update

This term in boarding

For our Fifth Year and Upper Sixth pupils , this term ’ s focus has been on the final stages of exam preparation , leading up to the first summer season of external examinations since 2019 . ‘ Finishing Line ’ sessions from Elevate Education helped pupils to ensure they were fully prepared as well as the ongoing support and guidance of their house staff and subject teachers . We are incredibly proud of the way in which all pupils conducted themselves throughout the exam season and wish them the very best of luck for their upcoming results .
For our other year groups too , much of this term has been spent in preparation for end-of-year examinations , and on the crucial post-exam reflection and target-setting . Outside the exam hall , our First Year pupils had the chance to bring History to life on their visit to Rievaulx Abbey , whilst the Science department welcomed local primary school pupils to try out their impressive problem-solving and teamwork skills in our inaugural CSI Science day .

One of the joys of this year has been the return of some of our traditional events . Improvements in the weather meant that most of the weekend activities could move outdoors , and as a result the boarders have enjoyed watersports , picnics , camping and trips to the seaside . By popular request there was also a second trip of the year for all the boarders to Flamingoland . The boarders BBQ was the last big event of the year , with a fantastic atmosphere amongst staff and boarders , great food , and an epic 20-a-side game of volleyball .
Best wishes to the Upper Sixth and other leavers as they move on to pastures new . Thanks go to
Lucy Wedge ( Head Girl ), Tom Brown and Kim Cundliffe ( winners of the overall school boarding awards ) and Millie Watson , Annabelle Medhurst , Kiera Wright , Luke Nolan , Jacob Annetts , Lamek Abraha , Chris Sebastian , Kai Ogawa and Cristina Martinez-Alcaide ( winners of the inaugural Head of Boarding awards ) for their contributions . We also pass on our best wishes to two of our House Deputies , Adam Lea and Angus Learmonth , as they move onto new schools .
Wishing all our boarding staff , boarders , and everyone else a great summer .
Steve Greaves , Head of Boarding
