Successful day at the office for Young Enterprise teams !
Two teams of Pocklington School Sixth Form students successfully honed their business skills , to win awards at this year ’ s Young Enterprise County Finals .
Team BOSH Bottle and Team Spocksz , went head-to-head against other schools from the Humber region , to compete for a place in the next stage of the competition . The Pocklington teams , involving 15 students in total , prepared business plans and a presentation for the nationwide business challenge .
Team Spocksz , a company with a business plan to sell socks made to high environmental standards , won the Customer Service prize for their presentation , trade stand and interviews .
Team BOSH Bottle who confidently presented a business plan to sell Carbon Neutral Water Bottles were the overall winner of the finals . They also won the overall award for Teamwork , an excellent achievement with such a large team of 10 members .
In the next stage of the competition , Team BOSH Bottle competed against other teams from the North of England , where they delivered a presentation to a new set of judges from the world of business . On this occasion , they were
unsuccessful in qualifying for the national finals , but they did win the award for Creativity ; a great achievement , especially since all the preparation has been completed in their own time , alongside Sixth Form studies .
Gareth Shephard , Head of Economics and Business Studies and Pocklington School ’ s Young Enterprise Coordinator said : “ Bosh Bottle had the potential to go all the way to the National Finals and perhaps beyond . Their achievements in creativity and teamwork were rewarded , but the most important outcomes are their learning experiences , which I know , will serve them well in their future careers . Well done to the whole team and thank you to all who supported them .
The Young Enterprise scheme is a charity that empowers young people to harness their personal and business skills . Through support from local business community advisors provided by Young Enterprise , and former pupils of Pocklington School , students are able to make the connection between school and the world of work .
Summer Term Sport
It has been a great return to summer sport this term , with both girls ’ and boys ’ cricket , athletics and tennis taking the lead . We have seen Cricket back in full flow , with several impressive results coming across all age groups , and some outstanding individual performances most notably from Harry Jackson scoring his first century of the year against Hill House .
Tennis has seen record numbers on the courts , and again several excellent results across the board , and we are looking forward to sending our very best down to Eton for the Schools Championship on the weekend of Saturday 2nd July .
In Athletics we have had outings to Hull and Middlesborough , where the Junior & Inter Girls made it through the Humberside Round to get through to the Regional Finals in Middlesborough . The Inter Girls came Second on the day , with the Junior Girls winning their section . We were all excited to see the return of spectators to Sports Day on Thursday 30th June .
We have also seen more equestrian success in the Hickstead Eventers ’ Championship in May , where several girls qualified to represent East , South and West Yorkshire most notably
Harriet Hodge who has been on incredible form with a unique treble win , securing three more qualifications for the Horse of Year Show in October to add to the one she won at Arena UK several weeks ago .
