CSI Day

On Friday 10th June Pocklington School welcomed 15 pupils from five local primary schools to the inaugural Primary School CSI Science Day . Teams were made up of three competitors from five primary schools from across the East Riding of Yorkshire .
Throughout the day , the pupils were tasked with undertaking scientific investigations and interpreting the evidence to identify their chief suspect . Experiments included : analysing stomach contents and fabric fibres , soil analysis using flame tests , chromatography , blood drop analysis and electrical circuits to measure resistance .
Joy Barker , School Business Manager , Eastrington School said “ Our team absolutely loved their CSI day at Pocklington School . From the moment they arrived and received their crime scene suits and information pack , there was a buzz of excitement and anticipation about the day ahead . It did not disappoint . What followed was a well organised day of biology , chemistry and physics activities . The day was enhanced with an excellent lunch ( on a crime
themed table !), and a warm welcome from all the staff we met .
Toby Seth , Headmaster Pocklington School commented “ I ’ m so pleased that local schools ’ partnership working has resumed , and it was wonderful to welcome so many enthusiastic young scientists as part of our outreach programme . We look forward to many more such events in the future .”
The day was organised as part of a programme of outreach and partnership work with local primary and secondary schools .

Student Art Exhibition at Pocklington Arts Centre

Pocklington School students held an art exhibition at Pocklington Arts Centre which ran for two weeks until the 5th July .
Stunning artworks by Fifth Year and Upper Sixth art and photography students included large scale oil paintings , still photography and sculpture .
Stand out pieces included Kim Cundliffe ' s double vision portrait of Mica Hancock surrounded by Jefferson Airplane lyrics for the song , ' White Rabbit ', Ellie Broadbent ' s portraits inspired by plastic surgery and the resilience of the human body , Mica Hancock ' s pixelated , glitching portraits and Rose Newbould ' s and Ella McClane ' s paintings inspired by the work of Erik Jones .
