Commemoration 2024
Music
In our Music Department , various events have taken place during the Lent Term . The Soloists Concert showcased individual performers from various instruments and vocalists , giving pupils a formal performance platform which was much appreciated by the audience . For informal performances , we held two " Rush Hour " Concerts , with the spotlight on single reeds ( clarinet and saxophone ), and drum kit performances , offering diverse programmes to friendly faces . Our Spring Concert united all ensembles , from the Orchestra to the Swing Band , in a culmination of this term ' s work . We are already looking forward to next term !

On Friday 9 February 2024 , Pocklington School celebrated our service of Commemoration of Benefactors and Founders , which this year was led by Canon Bill Merrington , our School Chaplain , and we were delighted to welcome the Most Rev . and the Rt Hon . Stephen Cottrell , The Lord Archbishop of York as our guest preacher .
The service of Commemoration of Benefactors and Founders has been a main event in the Pocklington School calendar for many years . It provides a space to reflect and give thanks for those who founded our School and for those who have supported it in the 510 years since , whether that be through financial support , gifts in kind or with their time .
Prior to the service , we were delighted to welcome members of the John Dolman Society , who are all benefactors of Pocklington School , as well as members of the 1514 Legacy Club , for a tour of School , lunch in the dining hall , and then coffee with members of the School prefect team , and members of our teaching staff .
Archbishop Cottrell implored pupils to make the most of the ‘ hand we have been dealt ’ in life , to make the most of the opportunities we have been given . There was also a reminder that we must never forget our duty to be aware of those in need , and that we are accountable when we fail to support .
Co-curricular
They say school days are some of the best days of your life . Our pupils have been putting that to the test this term by squeezing as much from the co-curricular programme as possible . Who wouldn ' t enjoy this Fourth Year pupil ’ s week from February 2024 : netball on Saturday , Duke of Edinburgh on Sunday , CCF on Monday , HPQ presentations on Tuesday , performing in King Lear at The Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds on Wednesday , choir on Thursday and finishing the week off well with golf on Friday ?!
It is a full team effort being this committed - parents , staff and the pupils themselves are all vital cogs in the wheel of making the most of all the opportunities on offer . Thanks to all for their unwavering commitment to the co-curricular life at Pocklington .
