Family Partnerships

Families are essential partners in supporting children ' s social-emotional growth. Staff work collaboratively with families to share strategies, communicate concerns, celebrate progress, and develop consistent approaches that support children ' s success.

Prohibited Practices

SELC does not permit:
• Physical punishment
• Humiliation or ridicule
• Verbal abuse
• Threats
• Withholding food
• Withholding rest
• Any practice that is harmful, frightening, or degrading to children

Suspension and Expulsion

SELC is committed to supporting all children in inclusive learning environments. The program follows Connecticut guidance and best practices regarding suspension and expulsion practices.
In accordance with Connecticut State Department of Education, suspension and expulsion in PK are prohibited according to( CGS § 10-233l( b)( 1)).
SELC is committed to working with families, specialists, and community partners to identify individualized strategies and supports that promote children ' s success and continued participation in the program.

Records, Confidentiality, and Family Rights

SELC values the privacy of children and families and maintains student information in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Educational and health records are maintained securely and are only shared with individuals who have a legitimate educational interest or as otherwise permitted by law.
