Classroom Promises
Each classroom develops Classroom Promises that help create safe, caring, and respectful learning environments. Classroom Promises are developed in developmentally appropriate ways and help children understand how to care for themselves, others, and their learning environment.
Teachers regularly revisit Classroom Promises through discussions, stories, role-playing, and daily classroom experiences.
Second Step and Executive Function Skills
SELC incorporates Second Step and Executive Function strategies throughout the school day to support children ' s social-emotional development and learning behaviors.
Children engage in activities that help them develop:
• Attention and focus
• Flexible thinking
• Self-control
• Emotional regulation
• Problem-solving skills
• Friendship skills
Responding to Challenging Behavior
When challenging behaviors occur, staff work to understand the underlying cause of the behavior and provide developmentally appropriate support.
Strategies may include:
• Teaching replacement skills
• Adjusting the environment
• Providing additional supports
• Partnering with families
• Collaborating with specialists when appropriate
Our goal is to help children develop the skills they need to be successful across settings and relationships.
SELC staff work with families and school-based support personnel to identify strategies and supports that promote children ' s success. Support teams may include special education staff, related service providers, Family Advocates, school psychologists, and other educational professionals as appropriate.
