Attendance

Regular attendance is an important part of a child ' s early learning experience. When children attend school regularly, they have more opportunities to build relationships, participate in learning experiences, develop routines, and strengthen the skills that support school readiness.
Preschool is a valuable time to establish positive attendance habits that can contribute to longterm success throughout a child ' s educational journey.

Reporting Absences or Tardiness

If your child will be absent or late, please notify the school as soon as possible by contacting the Main Office at 860-253-4741.
When reporting an absence, please provide:
• Your name
• Your child ' s name
• The reason for the absence
If an absence has not been reported, SELC staff will make every effort to contact families to ensure a child ' s safety and well-being.

Attendance Expectations

SELC is committed to partnering with families to support regular attendance. In alignment with Head Start expectations, the program strives to maintain an average daily attendance rate of 85 percent or higher. Please note that the state of Connecticut considers 95 percent or higher to be a healthy attendance. This equates to missing less than 9 days in a school year.
Families enrolling in Head Start and PK STEAM acknowledge the importance of regular attendance as part of the enrollment and orientation process.

Attendance Monitoring and Support

Attendance is reviewed regularly to help ensure children receive the maximum benefit from their preschool experience.
When attendance concerns arise, SELC staff will partner with families to:
• Identify barriers to attendance
• Connect families with resources or supports
