HMO and Medicare Advantage Network Changes
What is changing?
Beginning July 15, 2026, Hometown Health HMO members began transitioning primary care services to Kaiser Permanente or Renown Health primary care clinicians.
This change affects commercial HMO and Medicare Advantage members in Washoe County and surrounding communities who currently receive primary care through community providers. Many affected clinicians will continue participating in commercial PPO and EPO networks.
What does this mean for HMO and Medicare Advantage patients?
Impacted members will need to select a primary care clinician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. Members will continue to have access to Renown Health services and will also have access to Kaiser Permanente primary care and laboratory services at the Del Monte Medical Offices in Reno and Ion Medical Offices in Sparks.
Senior Care Plus
Senior Care Plus plans will end Dec. 31, 2026. Members enrolled in a Senior Care Plus HMO plan must choose and enroll in new Medicare coverage during Medicare ' s Annual Election Period, Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, 2026. Members were notified by Oct. 2, 2026, that their current plan is ending and that they must enroll in a Kaiser Permanente Medicare plan for 2027.
What does this mean for patients?
Members who do not make a coverage selection by Dec. 7 may use a Special Election Period from Dec. 8, 2026, through Feb. 28, 2027. Members are encouraged to enroll by Dec. 31, 2026, to help avoid any gap in coverage.
