BREATHE'S HIGHS AND LOWS

HIGHS

Having time and space to develop new pieces of work and to review our documentation. Redraft policies and procedures. 

 

Our dynamic and varied online programme, which has included a huge range of open-sessions, group work sessions, and one to ones.

 

Opportunities to get to know families and siblings a bit more due to engaging with young people at home.

Realising and recognising the experience and capabilities of our team, who have adapted readily and flexibly to a new way of working over lockdown.

 

Being able to employ a sessional worker  for six months, who was a previous member, and feeling excited about the possibility of developing more opportunities like this in the future, by building up a bank of sessional workers. This worker has helped with employability work and work with young men.Taken on an 'intern' and supporting them as a trainee youth worker.

Undertaken good training with YMCA.

We started walk and talk sessions, inspired by YMCA, which became part of our weekly activities.

We've been doing drop-ins in Pitlochry (a new location) In Aberfeldy we've developed a new technology suite.

Young people have been supported to do Hi-5 Awards.

LOWS

Lows include:

- Dealing with the restrictions

- Lots of cancellations and prevented from delivering the full programme that was intended.

-Loss of face to face contact.

- Seeing some of the difficulties young people faced.

- Dealing with some complicated bits of youth work.

- Cold and dark weather was difficult.

- Difficult at times to keep the team motivated, due to the limitations.

- Having to continually assess and adapt to changes and respond appropriately and safely to measures implemented by current covid guidelines.

- Ill health within the team leading to staff members having to be signed off, resulting in gaps.
