Don’t you think kids should be able to

go to their closets in the morning and pick out something to wear without a worry of getting in trouble at school? Kids have enough things to stress about in the mornings, they don’t need another thing to worry about. Dress codes are just another thing to add to their stress level and are becoming ridiculous.

One reason is because the guidelines don’t match everyone’s body type. For example, girls, some have long arms so their shorts have to be a lot longer. On the other hand, some girls have short arms so they can wear shorter shorts, which isn't fair.

Also, the dress codes haven’t been changed in years so it isn’t up to date. Clothes now are WAY different than they used to be. It’s a shock if you can find a pair of jeans that don’t have holes or fringes. Lots of parents struggle to find clothes suitable for their child along with abiding by the dress code. They have to fit the dress code or they will get in trouble. Also, they have to appeal to the child or else they won’t wear them because who is going to wear something they don’t like?

In addition, this is a free country. No school can tell us what we can and can’t wear. Think about it, parents should have enough common sense not to let their son/daughter leave the house dressed inappropriately. If they don’t, that’s a problem in itself. Plus, if students are limited to what they can wear, they have to wear the same things over and over again. Furthermore, someone who is not for changing the dress code might say that students DO have freedom but with some guidelines.

In conclusion, dress codes prevent student from expressing themselves and showing their creativity. The current dress code need some major updating. Honestly, the teachers could care less if the students aren’t in dress code. If nobody cares, why have it?
