At L.I.S. our P.E. requirements are stable, but could definitely use some improvements. I wouldn’t say I'm with or against them. I understand that we need health and keyboarding too, but I know how to work around that. Also, our coaches only have so much time to be over here, but I have plans for that too. So, maybe after you read this you will agree with me and maybe even do something about it.
One reason our P.E. needs updating is that our preparation for middle school is just sad. We have such little time and don’t get enough exercise. Also, once we get to middle school sports we are going to be behind and won’t perform to our full potential. A big reason for this is that kids who don't care and don’t want to be there are hurting kids who do care and want to play sports in middle school.
Also, I think that we should have P.E. 5 days a week instead of just 3. One reason for this, is that only 3 days, with such little time, doesn’t get us enough exercise, and this way we would have less energy in class. Well, what about health and keyboarding? On Fridays, we should sub them in for math and reading. I mean, we need a break from classwork too. The only other obstacle to work around would be the coach’s time. Well, we have like 15 other coaches, shouldn't that be enough?
In addition, allowing more P.E. days and our middle school preparation, there is how long P.E. is (and should be). We only get 30-45 minutes, but what about Play 60? “Well, get the rest at home.” Is what a person who is with our P.E. requirements might say. But what about our after school activities, homework, and still getting enough sleep? Also, what about a little relaxation every once in awhile? “There are 24 hours in a day, isn't that enough?” Is what someone with a different opinion might say. Well, not if you think about it. Is it just me or are you having the same problem?
In conclusion, I’m with our P.E requirements at L.I.S, but they do need improvement. P.E needs to better prepare us for middle school sports. Also, with our health and weight concerns we need P.E longer and every single day. The more we play, the more exercise, less obesity, less energy in class, and better middle school preparation. These could make our school and town a better place too.
