P.E. Requirements

Why are students bored in physical education? Maybe this is because it is the same thing day after day. Some improvements that need to be made in physical education requirements are longer time periods, student input, and a variety of activities.

Students lack sufficient time to participate in physical activities. Students lose physical education time walking to and from class to the gym. Students also lose physical education time because it is only offered three times a week. This is not enough time! Students need to exercise daily. In addition, students assigned discipline have even less time to learn new skills in physical education.

On the other hand, opponents believe stu-

dents need traditional physical education instruc-

tion to exercise properly. They believe the tradition-

al methods will cover everything students need to

learn, and this may be done in shorter time per-

iods. However, this is not true. Varying activi-

ties and longer time periods would allow

students the opportunity to learn more

new skills. Student would be more eager

to learn because they would not know

what to expect. Furthermore, students

would also participate more because

activities would not be so boring.

Finally, student input would

improve participation. Students do

more when they enjoy what they

are doing. Students would have own-

ership since they picked the physical

activity. Also, students would feel less

intimidated because they would pick what

they feel confident in performing,

In conclusion, improvements need to be

made in physical education requirements. Longer

classes would allow for more time to participate in phys-ical activities. Students should be able to give input into activities they would like to learn about. Also, a greater variety of activities would improve student
