The debate about the future of work has really taken off in recent years.

What jobs we might be doing, what future careers will look like, what skills will be needed, what organisations and places of work will look like.

There is growing recognition that we are facing a new era of work, driven, in particular, by the extraordinary advances in information technology and automation in all its many guises.

The BA (Hons) Human Resource Management course (of which this module is a part) has been designed to meet the challenges of this new era.

The People, Work and Society module has been designed in such a way as to assist you in developing those qualities that will set you apart from the machines – agile mindsets, people capable of creative reasoning and critical thinking. Stem questions and problems have been included that are designed to enhance your critical thinking skills.

Critical thinking is the process we use to reflect on, access and judge the assumptions underlying our own and others’ ideas and actions, at the moment at least the machines are not able to do this.

We stand on the brink of a technological revolution that will fundementally alter the way we live, work, and relate to one another. In its scale, scope, and complexity, the transformation will be unlike anyhting humankind has experienced before
