ZONE, which was held on the 9th of September in front of the Cultural House in Kumanovo. Specifically, this project was organized and realized by the Youth Board of the
IPK (a board made up entirely of youth representatives from three of the local Albanian
and Macedonian secondary schools), led by
the coordinator Cheryl Calhoun.
The day turned out to be a smashing success!...despite the challenge of gaining access to Kumanovo’s Cultural Center facilities
that morning. GAME ZONE included a variety of activities for the primary school pupils
and college students. Some of
the most fun
games were
the three
legged race,
egg toss, watermelon eating
contest, dodgeball, tug of war,
and the dizzy
bat race. The
event also included a raffle
for a USB stick
and other
prizes and award certificates for all of the
participants. 60 kids and onlookers were
present at the event and we managed to
raise more money for our next Youth Board
project from the food and drinks that the kids
purchased. The Youth Board also achieved
its goal of signing up other kids interested in
being IPK volunteers.
The people that were the happiest with this
happening were the primary school pupils,
who left very satisfied and repeatedly asked
if there was going to be another event like
The Youth Board was very proud of its ability to both organize an event and reach its
goal of having 50 people in attendance at
the event. However, if anybody was more
satisfied with the outcome of our event than
the youth volunteers, it would have been
the IPK staff, especially after the Youth
Board proved that you don’t need to be in a
position of power or have a lot of money in
the bank, in order to put on a great event
open to the entire community!
Finally, we can’t forget to thank the Kumanovo police force and the Cultural Center for providing us with an event location,
as well as pizzeria Ambrella and fast food
