Nicholas Morana Remembered for Supporting District Youth
PHSC Professor Dr . Stacey M . Thomson provided a gift to the Foundation in memory of her mother .
Since its inception in 2009 , nursing students have continued to receive financial support through the Dr . Bharat and Meena Desai Scholarship . Not only are students impacted by the Desai ’ s philanthropic support through scholarships , but many learn necessary critical skills in the Dr . Bharat and Meena Desai Simulation Lab located in the Michael J . and Frances M . Skarupa Health Sciences Building on PHSC ’ s West Campus .
CareerSource Pasco Hernando Board continued their support of PHSC students through the Dr . Katherine M . Johnson Annual Scholarship . Twelve students have received financial assistance through this scholarship since its establishment in 2016 .
Laura Raposa , her husband Ben and son Grayson recently established an annual scholarship in memory of Laura ’ s sister , Kimberly . Kimberly Montgomery dedicated her life to nursing and caring for others . She served 21 years as a nurse at North Bay Hospital , first as an LPN , then RN and went on to complete her BSN . Kimberly knew that her calling in life was to be a nurse and care for others from a young age . The Raposa ’ s hope that this scholarship will help other like-minded students achieve their goals at PHSC .

The Law Office of Philips and Raaymakers , PLLC recently provided a gift to establish the Sharon F . Grimes Memorial Scholarship . Sharon was a paralegal at the Law Office of Philips and Raaymakers for 28 years until she was diagnosed with terminal cancer . She was a hardworking , conscientious and compassionate member of their team and played an integral role in the office ’ s success . The Sharon F . Grimes Memorial Scholarship will support students who are enrolled in the paralegal program .

Nicholas “ Nick ” Morana , of Hernando County , passed away on February 10 , 2024 , at age 98 . A retired Army Air Corps Colonel and World War II veteran , he enriched the lives of
Hernando and Pasco County youngsters with his strong leadership skills and consistent monetary contributions to the Take Stock in Children ( TSIC ) program . Additionally , Morana orchestrated the Brother / Kentucky Colonel Awards , recognition provided to individuals for their service to district youth . Morana will be remembered for his community involvement , his passionate belief in the potential of future generations and his tireless efforts to provide the support and encouragement young people need to achieve productive and fulfilling lives .
