The Path to Victory

PHSC ’ s Cross Country Bobcats followed a straight path to victory this season culminating in a Regional Championship for the women and a promising future for the inaugural men ’ s team , ranking 11th at season ’ s end .

NJCAA Pre-National / TCC Open
Women : The 2022 team took the top five spots in the 5K race in Tallahassee . Gabrielle Marshall led the team with a time of 20:50 followed by Shelby Viseur ( 21:16 ), Maranda Hildebrand ( 21:38 ), Mia DeRonda ( 21:43 ), and Alexi Amer ( 22:18 ).
Men : The 2022 team opened the season with freshman runner Luis Cruzado making a first place finish ( 28:14:40 ) in the 8K race . Cruzado was followed by teammates Tom Palamar ( 28:27 ), Seth Stringer ( 29:24 ), Ronnie Aeschleman ( 29:26 ), and Thomas Tyler ( 29:58 ).
St . Leo Abbey Invitational
Women : The Bobcats placed fifth overall and first among NJCAA teams . Marshall ( 20:32 ) and Viseur ( 21:07 ) led the team .
Men : Landed an eighth overall finish , led by Stringer ( 28:41 ) and Cruzado ( 28:33 ).
Florida State University Invitational Women : Team average best of 20:30 .
Men : Team average best of 27:46 .
USF Invitational
Women : Placed seventh and first among five other NJCAA programs that participated in the event .
Men : Finished ninth out of 17 colleges .
NJCAA / FCSAA DII Regionals
Women : Once again , the Bobcats claimed the NJCAA / FCSAA DII Region 8 championship for the sixth time in seven years . The team totaled 31 points ahead of Daytona State College ( 61 ) and Florida Gateway College ( 73 ). Marshall led the Bobcats with a second-place finish ( 20:19:2 ). Teammates Shelby Viseur ( 20:40 ) tied for fourth place and Alexi Amer ( 20:48 ) finished sixth to make the All-NJCAA / All-FCSAA Region 8 team . Also , Head Coach Jacki Wachtel was named NJCAA Region 8 Coach of the Year .
Men : The inaugural team finished in third place with 79 points as Daytona State took the championship with 21 points followed by Lake Sumter State College ( 53 ). Cruzado was the top Bobcat runner with a ninth-place finish ( 27:41 ) and teammate Palamar finished 11th ( 27:42 ).
NJCAA DII National Championship
Women : The NJCAA DII Region 8 Cross Country Champions opened the day placing eighth overall and first among five FCSAA colleges competing in the National race . It was the fourth trip to Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee this season . Marshall led the Bobcats with a 29th place finish among 218 runners . Coach Wachtel was named NJCAA DII Atlantic Division Women ’ s Coach of the Year at the prechampionship banquet .
Men : The team ranked 14th heading into the 2022 NJCAA DI / DII Cross Country Championships and moved up three spots to 11th . Palamar led the Bobcat men finishing 59th out of 219 runners .
NJCAA DII Half-Marathon
Women : Placed sixth of 20 . Shelby Viseur ran a 1:35:39 race , placing 20 out of 83 . Marshall and Hildebrand tied ( 1:37:42 ) for the 22nd spot .
Men : Placed 10th of 25 just behind regional champs Daytona State . Bobcats top winner , Tom Palamar , ran a 1:13:40 race , placing 28th out of 130 runners .
