Grant Supports Short-Term Job Training
The Florida Department of Education awarded PHSC $ 306,644 in funding through the Open Door Grant Program ( Open Door ), which will run through June 30 , 2023 .
Open Door supports students completing short-term and technical education credentialing courses . The program ’ s goal is to help students attain a workforce certificate in high-demand fields successfully . The Open Door grant addresses and closes the gap between the skills needed by workers in the state and the skills of the available workforce in the state .
PHSC ’ s short-term and technical education credentialing courses , such as OSHA 30 Construction , Intermediate 3D Printing , CompTIA , and Apprenticeships , provide training in high-demand fields .
These short-term courses were developed to provide technical training that directly responds to current industry demands , as well as offering an accelerated pathway to high-wage careers . Open Door Grant / Last Dollar scholarship funding is available to qualified students .
Student Trustee Takes on the World
Student Trustee Celyse Dahdal attended the Association of Community College Trustees convention in New York City last October , an event that attracted more than 200 education leaders nationwide . PHSC President Timothy L . Beard , Ph . D ., also in attendance at the meeting , encourages students ’ involvement in professional organizations to gain knowledge , experience , and networking opportunities . “ It was wonderful to learn more about board member roles and responsibilities and to meet so many interesting college trustees ,” said Dahdal . “ I very much appreciated the experience and loved the ambiance of the city — with all the chaos , lights , and symphony of honking horns .” Dahdal plans to pursue a bachelor ’ s degree in business administration after she completes her Associate in Arts degree at PHSC .
