PHSC Athletics Welcomed New Coaching Staff

Season Wrap-Up

PHSC men ’ s basketball and women ’ s soccer teams welcomed new head coaches this season . “ The coach changes came as the PHSC athletic department was faced with two vacancies weeks away from the start to the seasons ,” said Steve Winterling , PHSC Athletic Director .

Larry Behm was named Head Coach for PHSC ’ s men ’ s basketball program when Coach Micheal Jones ( 2013-2022 ) moved to an administrative position at the College . Behm was a successful high school coach for 24 years in Syracuse , N . Y . His teams winning numerous leagues , New York state sectional and regional championships . And , in 2009 his
Larry Behm team advanced to the New York State Final Four .
“ We are blessed to have Coach Behm step-up and run the basketball program with his wealth of experience ,” said Winterling .
Mark Leonard has been coaching soccer for the last 18 years , with the last five years at Wesley Chapel High School . Leonard ’ s teams have won the district title four out of the last five years ( 2018 , 2019 , 2020 , 2022 ), with 2017-2018 being the first in school history . Leonard was named both Wesley Chapel High School and Sunshine Athletic Conference Coach of the Year

( 2017-2018 ) and twice Team of the Year for Girls Soccer ( 2017-2018 , 2019-2020 ).
Winterling said , “ At one point I was concerned that we were going to have to cancel the soccer season facing the vacancy at three weeks out with no replacement , but I am very fortunate to have found an excellent , experienced candidate in Coach Leonard .”
Women ’ s Soccer In its second year at PHSC , the women ’ s soccer team faced great adversity competing in a NJCAA Division I field and a coaching staff change just three weeks prior to the season open . Head Coach Mark Leonard ’ s leadership and coaching brought the team together to compete against strong opponents including Daytona State College and then-ranked number one Eastern Florida State College . Pensacola State College is scheduled to start and compete in Division II next fall .
Women ’ s Volleyball The women ’ s volleyball team season ( 8-16 , 3-10 ) came to an end with a hard fought 3-2 ( 25-27 , 25- 23 , 22-25 , 25-22 , 13-15 ) loss to South Florida State College . It was an exciting match as both teams battled back and forth from the start . Isabella Greiferstein and Ravyn Dunomes led the team with 15 kills each followed by Caitlyn Cindrich with 10 kills . Elena Castillo-Wetzell had 29 digs in the match . The Bobcats compete in the Sun-Lakes Conference South Division which consists of South Florida State , Palm Beach State , State College of Florida , and St . Petersburg College .
