NJCAA DII Win Region 8 Championship
PHSC Women ’ s Softball Bobcats won the NJCAA DII Region 8 championship title and secured district play , where they opened the NJCAA South Atlantic Regional District Tournament with a 14-6 win against Patrick Henry Community College . Jasmin Fontela picked up the win on the mound by pitching three solid innings . Madison Wagner , Meghan Kimery and Jenna Gabrielli led the way offensively , each with three hits . Jade Canady and Tierra Riley also had two hits each .
In game two , the Bobcats beat the second-seeded team , Surry Community College , 9-3 . Ashley Nickisher led the offense with three hits , including a home run and five runs batted in . Mackenzie Hoffman , Tierra Riley , Taylor Tremmel and Jenna Gabrielli all had multiple hits in the game . “ Savannah Lee picked up the win on the mound throwing the first four innings , and Jasmin Fontela picked up the save by throwing the last three innings ,” said PHSC Women ’ s Softball Head Coach Steve Mumaw .
In game three , the Bobcats fell to the third-ranked team in the nation , Louisburg College , 2-0 . Kylie Coffin was the hard-luck loser on the mound as she threw six terrific innings , giving up only four hits and two runs .
2022 NJCAA DII Region 8 Women ’ s Softball Team Champions
The Bobcats bounced back in game four to eliminate Florence-Darlington Technical College , 8-0 . Jasmin Fontela picked up another win on the mound throwing a complete game shutout . Taylor Tremmel led the way offensively as she had three hits , including a double , home run and three runs batted in . The win sent the Bobcats to the championship game and a chance to get back to the NJCAA World Series .
The Bobcats lost in the final to Louisburg College , 4-1 , ending their season one win away from advancing to the NJCAA World Series for the second consecutive season . Jasmin Fontela and Savannah Lee both pitched well and gave the offense a chance to win . “ The offense did outhit Louisburg but lost . Leading the way offensively was Mackenzie Hoffman , who was the only Bobcat to record at least two hits in the game . Jade Canady , Madison Wagner , Jenna Gabrielli , Asley Nickisher , Taylor Tremmel and Tierra Riley all had hits in the game ,” said Mumaw .
The Bobcats finished their season with 32 wins and 20 losses . They beat four teams who played in the NJCAA softball World Series .
