Parking Enforcer In other words, companies cannot rely on others to make their phone ring; they have to make it ring for themselves by continually working on business-building and revenue-generating tasks. The bottom line is that Towing Companies cannot let third party providers run their business. Such paradigms limit the Towing Company’s success and even diminish how much revenue they can generate. It is good business for Towing Companies to have law enforcement contracts and to be on rotations, but the amount of business they get and the revenue they generate is out of their hands. They need to take control of their own companies. We ask Towing Companies to consider these questions: “Are auto clubs and insurance companies paying significantly more today than they did five years ago?” “Are prices lower today for Trucks, Equipment, Labor, and Fuel than they were five years ago?” Each year the auto clubs and insurance companies grow in number, while their chokehold on the towing industry gets tighter, making it more and more difficult for a small business to earn a livable income. So what does all this have to do with the Private Property Impound business? Towing Companies need to take hold of the Private Property Towing and Impound business, drive a stake in it, and claim it as their own so this business is not lost as the vehicle assistance business was. When we make this statement, someone usually bristles up and informs us that they have not lost the vehicle assistance business and that they still do the work. Our response is “You still do the work, you just don’t get paid for it any more.” The question remains: How do you secure and retain Private Property Impound and Towing Business? First, we need to understand the market: what its needs are and how we can meet those needs. It is important to realize that Private Properties and Towing Companies have contradicting objectives: The Towing Company’s objective is to tow vehicles, while the Private Property’s goal is never to have a vehicle towed. Two completely different objectives. To help Towing Companies get their foot in the door, we tell them to emphasize Parking Enforcement and deemphasize the towing aspect. Private Properties are not looking for towing; rather, they are looking for Parking Enforcement. For this reason, we advise Towing Companies to present themselves as a company that specializes in the services the property is looking for. 5 PROVIDER AND PROPERTY
