HEALTH & SAFETY
The health and safety of our students and employees is a primary concern of the administration and board. To that end, we aspire to:
• Create an institutional culture devoted to the health and safety of all who learn and serve at CCS;
• Help students learn to care for themselves and others;
• Nurture students’ growing maturity and independence, appropriately supervising them at a developmentally appropriate level;
• Provide the adults who care for, teach, work with, or have interactions with students the knowledge, training, and skills to keep students safe;
• Ensure, to the best of our ability, that these adults possess the character, background, and experience required to work safely with students and with our community. The guidelines and regulations contained in this document, above and below, directly impact these goals.( Adopted by the CCS School Board on 9 / 6 / 2022)
School Nurse
Public health nurses who serve CCS students are provided by the Town of Manchester Pupil Personnel Services and are shared with another local parochial school( located ½-mile away from CCS). The registered nurse( RN) is on our campus in the afternoons and has an office located on the third floor of the elementary building. When the RN is not on our campus, the town has recently been providing us with a licensed practical nurse( LPN). Cornerstone defers to the health-related expertise of our school nurses, who follow the Manchester Board of Education’ s health protocols. Specifically, we follow the instructions of our school nurses regarding when a child must not be in school due to illness, oversight of state-mandated vaccinations and related health records, and communicating doctors’ orders to teachers when a student’ s medical condition requires temporary accommodations( such as returning from a concussion or injury).
Illness
In general, for the welfare of your child and the others in the school, all children who are sick must be kept at home. Children should NOT come to school with a temperature of 100 ° F or above( without the aid of fever-reducing medications), nor will they be permitted to remain at school if the fever develops mid-day. The feverish child will be isolated, and the school will call the parents to pick up their child.
A student who has been out sick may return to school only when the following has occurred:
