The Sherman Jen Learning Commons

The Sherman Jen Learning Commons is located on the ground floor of the Junior School and is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 3:20 pm . This is also a location for before and after school care supporting working families with extended care .
The goals of the Learning Commons program are to foster a love of reading and to equip students with the information and digital literacy skills needed to function effectively as they move through their education , and as lifelong learners .
The teacher-librarian selects and organizes library resources , both print and electronic , and works with teachers to plan and teach units that incorporate information skills into classroom topics . The educational technology teacher helps teachers and administrators to select devices and applications that best support students and enable them to share and show their learning . The merging of traditional and new literacies through collaboration is at the heart of the Learning Commons .
Depending on the grade , up to 10 print books can be borrowed during regular hours and may be checked out for up to two weeks . E-books can be downloaded at any time .
The library assistant works with the teacherlibrarian to organize , manage and circulate the collection .

Student Services

Student Services is a vibrant centre that is organized to support students in their personal social-emotional growth and academic success . It is an inviting space . Students can be found in the centre enjoying a variety of areas for quiet reflection , one-to-one work with a teacher or individual studying .

Learning Resources

The Learning Resources ( LR ) program provides support for students who are experiencing academic and learning challenges with their schoolwork . LR teachers work with students to develop study skills , personalized approaches to academic success and build confidence and self-advocacy . They work as a cohesive team with the student , parents , teachers and sometimes community professionals ( e . g . speech or occupational therapists ) to develop the best possible approaches for each girl to achieve her personal learning goals .
