Student Wellbeing
Crofton House School recognizes the importance of prioritizing student social and emotional learning ( SEL ) and overall well-being . A focus on SEL and well-being is embodied in various elements of the school day . This includes dedicated form time daily , assemblies , class lessons and co-curricular and Program Plus offerings . All students in the Junior School will participate in focused learning related to socialemotional learning as outlined in our JK-Grade 7 curriculum . This curriculum will work to develop the understanding , language and skills to support students in areas such as managing emotions including complexities related to worry and anxiety , and developing skills to support key areas such as peer conflict and online safety . This work is overseen by our Coordinator of SEL and Student Wellbeing , Junior School in partnership with the classroom teacher .
Crisis
If a student is experiencing a social , emotional , mental or physical crisis ( i . e ., panic attacks , abusive behaviour , disordered eating , thinking about harming themselves or someone else , etc .), she should be connected to a professional immediately . A first step is for the student to make contact with our school counsellor who will guide the student and family in accessing further support as needed . Outside of school hours , students and families can access the following services for support .

• Kids Help Phone 24-hour line : 1 800 668 6868
• Help Line for Children from noon to 1:00 am : 310 1234 ( no area code required )

Counselling Services
The counselling program in the Junior School provides both intervention and prevention services to strengthen the academic , social and emotional needs of students . Counselling services are provided in classroom settings , small groups and individually . Students access services through self-referrals and recommendations made by parents , teachers and administration . Students will often drop into counselling after break and lunch to solve friendship issues and parents are not contacted . When a counselling plan is created for a student , parents are contacted as close as possible to the initial meeting with the student to discuss her needs and to obtain consent . A sample of the informed consent form is available on the website .
