The House System

Every student in the Junior School ( JK to Grade 7 ) belongs to one of four Houses :
• Hummingbirds ( yellow )
• Robins ( red )
• Swallows ( blue )
• Wrens ( purple )
In September , new students are presented with a house pin as a gift from the CHS Alumnae Association . The house pin is a brightly coloured interpretation of a bird to represent your daughter ’ s house .
Each House includes older girls as role models inspiring friendship and inclusivity throughout the School . As part of their leadership growth and development , Grade 7 students have shared responsibility throughout the year as House Captains . They also stand out as school leaders by wearing a symbolic sash with the colour of their house and a Grade 7 pin . Grade 7 House Captains plan enthusiastic house activities and house meetings that promote cross-grade relationships , are lively and fun , and foster a sense of community within the School . It feels very special for the younger girls to know the “ big girls ” and call them friends .
The Junior School thrives in healthy competition and school spirit by collecting house points . House points are awarded on a daily basis , generated by demonstrating citizenship , courage , kindness , helpfulness , generosity , following school expectations and , finally , for participation in intramurals and the outcome of Sports Day .
The Junior School also has three unique awards to distinguish house points :
• The Sports Day Cup : Awarded to the winning house on Sports Day .
• The Intramural Spirit Cup : Awarded to the House with the highest participation in intramurals .
• The Gordon Cup : Awarded to the House with the most points throughout the year , this is the most significant award in the Junior School .
