Smoking or Vaping on School Property
All public and private Kindergarten to Grade 12 schools in BC are tobacco- and vape-free under the Tobacco and Vapour Products Control Act and Regulation . This ban extends to all school property 24 hours a day , seven days a week , regardless of whether or not school is in session . The ban also includes vehicles , parking lots , sports fields , driveways , courtyards and private vehicles parked on school property . It is a CHS Code of Conduct violation for students to smoke or vape on school property or when participating in any school-related activity . This behaviour will be strongly sanctioned .
Curricular and Co-Curricular Excursions
Crofton House School offers unique curricular and co-curricular off-campus learning experiences as an integral part of CHS programs . As a part of the educational program , students are expected to participate in curricular excursions , including those related to Outdoor Education , and are encouraged to participate in co-curricular excursions .
Students and parents / guardians will receive specific information in advance of every excursion from the excursion coordinator . Parents / guardians are encouraged to seek clarification on any aspect of an excursion before the students depart .
Parent / Guardian Volunteers on Junior School Excursions
In the Junior School , we value the role of parent / guardians volunteers on curricular excursions . Teachers will contact parents / guardians in advance to confirm they can volunteer for a specific trip . Parents / guardians accompany groups in a supervisory role to maintain the safety and wellbeing of students . This includes avoiding taking photos during the excursion to maintain attention on all students .
Cost of Excursions
The cost of day excursions and overnight Outdoor Education excursions are included in the annual tuition fee . Optional co-curricular excursions may have costs beyond those included in tuition ; this will be communicated to participating families in advance . Financial assistance is available for these excursions . Parents / guardians are asked to contact the respective director in the Junior School or Senior School for further information .
Acknowledgement of Risk and Informed Consent
As part of annual Student Information Questionnaires , all parents / guardians are required to complete an Annual Acknowledgement of Risk and Informed Consent ( ARIC ) form . This form covers all curricular and co-curricular excursions during which the risks inherent are consistent with those a student would experience while on campus . Examples of these excursions include visits to art galleries or museums , outdoor walks in woodlands or on beaches , or participating in a competition such as those related to athletics or the music program . The annual form includes descriptions of mitigation strategies for risks associated with transportation , off-campus meals and health emergencies .
When an excursion has risks that are ELEVATED beyond the normal classroom environment and are NOT IDENTIFIED in this form , you will be given detailed information for that excursion and will be required to provide additional consent in a specific ARIC form . If the ARIC form has not been submitted by the deadline stated in the form , your daughter will not be permitted to participate in the excursion .
