School in Action Day For parents, this means a day off work while you come to school to see the school in action! On this day, parents become part of their child’s class, even if only for an hour, and are able to interact, help, share and enjoy being back at school for a day. After lunch, the staff and pupils (and some parents) usually play sport against each other. This is a perfect opportunity for parents to see how great it is to currently be in primary school - particularly at the Red School! School Play (biennial) Every alternate year we stage a school production and every pupil in the school plays a role. Pupils learn invaluable skills while producing, acting, performing, working backstage and dancing in the show. We spend many hours practising and are always excited to see how well our children perform. Because this is a “whole” school production, most staff and parents also participate in some way. Soccer/Netball Festival The soccer and netball festival, organised by the Red School, is always very eventful, with teams competing against each other in a round robin format. Each team gets a chance to compete against the best teams in our zones. We have a prize giving at the end and the Early Act use this opportunity to sell food and supply the teams with a snack and a drink. Valentine’s Day Civvies Pinelands North celebrates Valentine’s Day in a special way! On payment of a nominal ‘fine’ the children and staff come to school dressed in red and white. The funds raised on the day are added to our cleaning staff special bonuses, at the end of the year. World Book Day Dress-up Without buying or hiring outfits, dress your children to represent a character from a book and send them to school. You are welcome to join us when dropping your children – come dressed as a character yourself and win a participation prize! (and continue to work and advertise World Book Day to your colleagues!). “Thons” Each year we organise an academic related fundraising “thon”, in order to bring in money for a project decided on by the staff. Previous years included Read-a-thons, Math-a-thons and Word-a-thons. The money raised from these events has helped provide staff development and training, the installation of digital projectors in every class and a tablet bank for classes to use! 8 Pinelands North Primary School
