PHYSICAL EDUCATION Physical Education is an important part of our curriculum. At the beginning of every year, Foundation Phase parents are required to pay a levy towards this. This provides pupils with an hour of physical education every week, given by an outside coach. During the summer months, this time is used for swimming. During the fourth term, we do not start swimming straight away, as the weather may still be a bit cold. However, we expect pupils to bring both their swimming togs, as well as their PE togs to every PE lesson. For swimming, the children must have a regulation black swimming costume and red swimming cap. Children who are ‘sun sensitive’ or feel the need to cover up more, can wear their maroon shorts over their costume, or wear UV costumes. They also have to remember to bring a towel. Please send a waterproof bag for your child to pack away his/her togs once they have swum. It is important that all parts of their PE uniform are clearly marked. The aim of swimming in Foundation Phase PE is to give children confidence and teach them basic water safety. During swimming lessons, both the teacher’s aide and the teacher are present. During the winter months, physical education takes place in the hall. The teacher or teacher’s aide is always present during these lessons. Pupils must get into the habit of bringing their PE togs to school, on the day they have physical education. This uniform consists of the sports T-shirt and shorts. Should your child be unable to participate in PE for any reason, please write a note to the teacher to excuse him/her. 20 Pinelands North Primary School
