The two paths of episteme: Scientific knowledge in the tradition of Plato and Aristotle
Os dois caminhos da episteme: Conhecimento científico na tradição de Platão e Aristóteles
Summary The purpose of this article is to demonstrate that there are two ways of constructing scientific theory: the Platonic and the Aristotelian scientific methods. Research is conducted in the following stages: determination of the research problem and design of the research project; establishment, analysis, and review of sources of information; codification of research work; and drafting of the results. We concluded that two different ways of conceiving scientific knowledge have coexisted throughout the history of science: as the discovery of the contents of the soul expressed in the language of mathematics and moving from reasoning to objects( Plato) or as the transformation of the senses into figures of thought, i. e. moving from senses to reasoning, since each body creates its soul through writing( Aristotle). This article is the result of the research project titled: The onto-epistemological statute of scientific laws, Key: SIP 20110037, funded by the Instituto Politécnico Nacional of Mexico.

Resumo O propósito do presente artigo é mostrar que existem duas maneiras de construir teorias científicas: a platônica e a aristotélica. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida nas seguintes fases: delimitação do objeto e desenho do esquema de pesquisa, determinação, análise e fichado de fontes de informação, codificação de fichas de trabalho e redação dos resultados. Concluiu-se que na história da ciência tem existido duas maneiras distintas de conceber o conhecimento científico: como descobrimento do conteúdo da alma escrita em linguagem matemática e caminhando da razão aos objetos( Platão) ou como transformação das sensações em figuras de pensamento, ou seja, caminhando das sensações à razão, dado que cada corpo cria sua alma redigindo sua escritura( Aristóteles).
