Commissioner Rashad Mims is often seen working with his crew on road and bridge projects throughout Precinct 2.
Mims was 26 when he was first elected as Anderson County Commissioner for Precinct 2, making history as the youngest elected commissioner in the state of Texas at the time.
In October 2011, Mims earned his certification from the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas after completing the Commissioners’ Court Advanced Curriculum program. He graduated from the Commissioners Court Leadership Academy on Aug. 16, 2018, a two-year program in Austin and Washington, D. C. The program is sponsored by the V. G. Young Institute of County Government, Texas A & M AgriLife Extension. While in D. C., Mims had the opportunity to meet with the late civil rights leader, Congressman John Lewis, and sit in on Veteran Services reform.

He has completed over 380 hours of continuing education in county government training.
“ I have been reelected five times making me the longestserving African-American County Commissioner in Anderson County’ s history,” Mims said.“ With my dedication, experience and proven leadership, I am confident in my ability to continue fostering growth and progress in our community.”
Mims said his role as a commissioner brings new challenges daily, requiring innovative solutions to meet the needs of his constituents.
“ I am committed to using my experience and resources to improve Anderson County Pct. 2 and the entire county,” he said.“ I have a record of fighting to keep the tax rate the lowest we can have to balance the overall county budget.”
He also currently serves as an executive board member of the East Texas Council of Governments where he oversees the local workforce initiatives, 911 addressing, child care facilities, elderly care and safety program, the Go Bus, Meals on Wheels and more.

Mims has served as a member of the ETCOG board of directors for the last 17 years, and for the last four of those years he’ s been a member of our executive committee.
Through his role with ETCOG, Cleveland said Mims has had“ direct input and influence” over the programs and services they bring to the region every day. Cleveland said Mims has had three achievements he wanted to emphasize including Mims’ involvement in regional broadband; the transportation program known as the Go Bus; and the 911 program.
Mims is an active member of the North & East Regional Association of Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association and the Texas Association of Black County Commissioners. He has held leadership roles as president and vice president.
