near the courthouse square . And as good as the guys are at creating automotive art and developing horsepower , they are quick to note that they don ’ t accept client work .
“ Everything we do is for sale ,” McClendon said . “ But we don ’ t do work for anyone in particular . When we finish one , we offer it up for sale and move on to the next project .”
As it turns out , the cars and trucks are neither the focus nor the end goal . The focus is simple and is also the organization ’ s slogan : Do what makes you happy .
As such , Calloway and McClendon ’ s days are spent enjoying every minute to its maximum capacity . Whether welding up a shaved firewall or routing the plumbing for a twin turbo setup on an LS motor , the two friends show up every day with a sense of optimism that today will be the best day they ’ ve ever had . Oddly enough , it seems to be working out perfectly . The Journey HQ is the main focus for both Calloway and McClendon , though both men have other ventures providing income , and the company has a full-time employee in Wes Anderson who spends his days creating and editing videos and managing the company ’ s social media presence .
“ There ’ s no way I could do that ,” McClendon said . “ We are what most men are in a shop situation – a little too immature , so the comments can get kinda ugly .”
“ I broke my neck !” Calloway replied . “ Well , I guess it isn ’ t ‘ that ’ different ,” McClendon said . The bulk of the story is a winding road of circumstances and events . Calloway had indeed broken his neck during a bicycling accident in Bentonville , Arkansas . Following three months of immobility and six more months of rehab and healing , Calloway found himself in the throes of depression and searching for a new interest to pursue .
“ I had a YouTube channel that focused on fishing ,” Calloway said . “ I was also a fishing guide . After my accident I couldn ’ t really do that anymore and I didn ’ t know what I ’ d do . Russell finally talked me into doing another YouTube Channel . I agreed , but the condition was that he ’ d do it with me .”
This is the “ leap of faith part .” McClendon , a former bodywork specialist for Killion ’ s Collision , gave up his only position that provided a regular paycheck and joined Calloway in the endeavor . “ The Journey HQ ” was born .
“ For the most part , we build custom cars and trucks , but that isn ’ t our main focus ,” McClendon said . “ We do what we do in order to create social media content . We document our builds , our searches for new projects , our conversations and interactions and we edit it and put it on our channel .”
