Over the course of the year , I was by Kathy ’ s side as she brought together women of all ages ( ranging from 17 to 67 ), from every facet of this game ( woods , rec , speedball , and scenario ), with every range of experience . Some of the women , like Kathy , had been around for 30 years . Some were professional X-ballers . One of our players had literally picked up a paintball gun for the first time only 2 weeks prior to the New York tournament . It didn ’ t really matter where we came from , because we had two important things in common : we were females with a passion for the sport of paintball .
There were countless chats , late-night phone calls , and conferences on Zoom . Some players came and left . But , Kathy persisted , undaunted and determined to get us to New York .
One week before the tournament , Fred Schultz hosted Kevin Donaldson on his podcast ‘ Flag Pull Productions ’ to pull the bracket seeds live .
There was a lot to say about the professional teams and a number of others who have built respect around the scene . The All Americans put in two teams , Ground Zero put in two as well . Lockout , Prime Suspects , Team Fox , Automen Aces ( formerly Aces Wild ) who have been around since the ‘ 80s , The New York Ghosts who were a local favorite , The Annihilators coming up from Florida , and The Pirates would be there as well . All of these were teams that even I had heard of while living over in the scenario world .
