Was there a particular moment when you realized you were finished with competitive ball ? Or did it happen gradually ? Can you describe how that process played out ? What did that feel like ?
In 1997 , I left Bad Company to focus more on the magazine . We ( the magazine ) were at a critical spot in our five-year history and the company needed me to be more hands-on . But I still wanted to play . So , in 1998 I played the World Cup with a really good Amateur team called Turbulence . Having not played the first four events of that season , I was super excited to play the World Cup . About four games in I realized it was a different game and I wasn ’ t nearly as good at it as I was woodsball . I played 95 percent of my tournament games in the woods . In 1998 it was all airball and I just knew I wasn ’ t going to love that game enough to dedicate myself to getting good at it .
And honestly , it felt okay . I was emotionally ready to retire from the circuit . And I knew I was still going to be at every major event with the magazine , so I wasn ’ t leaving the game . Brenda and I got married in 1998 and I had other responsibilities that needed my attention . No regrets .
