Paintball Media Magazine December 2025 | Page 65

How did you get started in paintball media ?
When I opened my field in the 1989 my business partner and I searched through APG and Paintball Sports magazines to find reviews on guns that we could possibly use as rentals at the field . We read a review of a gun that was just glowing . We ordered 20 of them and ran our first games a month or so later . By the end of the first day , almost half of the guns were not working . We went back to the magazines , found another great review and ordered 20 more guns . Same deal . By the end of the day many of them weren ’ t working . At that moment I said to my business partner , “ Let ’ s start a paintball product review magazine , and actually tell the truth .” Neither of us owned a computer , had any publishing experience , or knew where to start , so it took a while . By mid-1991 we announced to the paintball world we would be releasing the first issue of Paintball Consumer Reports International ( PCRI ) the next spring . And we did .
I ran the magazine until the late 1990s and then sold it to Gino Postorivo and National Paintball Supply and we merged it into Paintball 2Xtremes Magazine , which Gino had also just purchased months earlier . I was the editor and managing partner of Paintball 2Xtremes until and after National Paintball Supply sold to Pacific Paintball in 2008 . Shortly after that
Pacific Paintball , who also owned the NPPL at that point , filed for bankruptcy and the magazine went down with it .
I then started Paintball X3 Magazine and ran that for several years before taking a position with GI Sports to run Paintball . Media Magazine , while assisting GoSports for two seasons to help get that project off the ground . About three years later , I parted ways with GI Sports and Richmond Italia , who brought me on . At the time of the split , Richmond was gracious enough to give me the Paintball . Media name back , and Brenda and I have owned it ever since . www . paintball . media
