Designed for personnel who respond to releases or potential releases for the purpose of stopping the release.
They assume a more aggressive role and will approach the point of release in order to stop the release of
a hazardous substance. Topics can include: emergency response plans; classification, identification, and
verification of materials; the Incident Command System; PPE; hazard and risk assessment; advanced control,
containment, and confinement methods; decontamination; termination; and, basic haz-mat chemistry and
toxicology.

HAZWOPER 40-hour Hazardous Materials Specialist

This course is designed for personnel who respond with and provide support to Haz-Mat Technicians.
Duties require a more directed or specific knowledge of the various substances they may be called upon to
control/contain. Specialists may also act as the site liaison with Federal, state, local, and other government
authorities. Topics include: local, state, and federal emergency response plans; advanced hazard and
risk assessment; developing site and health control plans; and, chemical, radiological, and toxicological
terminology and behavior.

sites. Topics include: scope, application, and definitions; safety and health programs; site characterization
and analysis; site control; training; medical surveillance; engineering controls, work practices, and personal

Hazwoper General Site Worker Annual Refresher

This one-day (8-hr) course is designed as a refresher training course for those individuals who have completed
the HAZWOPER Initial 40-hour General Site Worker course. This annual training is required within one year of
the initial certification. This course discusses and reviews changes in Federal and State regulations as well
as relevant, upcoming legislation. In addition, developments in state-of-the-art practices and technologies,
as well as key aspects from the initial training are discussed. After completion of this course, participants will
have their certification extended for an additional year.
Prerequisite: Certified completion of the HAZWOPER Initial 40-hour General Site Worker course or equivalent.
