Ownit Magazine #2 - Sept-Okt. 2017 | Page 23

Dayna shares with her own students and children this role-playing and visualization technique where the performer is asked to pretend to be his/her favorite artist or musician. To act and feel like their favorite while performing, without being judged on their own play. This game of pretense allows someone to access their own hidden musicianship, public speaking ability, writing skill or any other capacity in a new way. Is it being fake? No way. It just removes one's own interference of self-doubt and criticism. The performance becomes free of your own inhibitions. Dayna emphasizes, "This technique helped me escape my natural stage fright and anxiety, and I continue to use it to this day. When I listen to recordings of practices and performances where I've actively done this, I can hear and see a difference. I relax into the beauty of the music, letting my full ability shine through."

7 tips

1. Use social media to uplift yourself. Not to compare yourself. Your gifts are unique. You need to find and develop them yourself. It's a journey from within.

2. Let go of the expectations of others. This is the only way to find your own way.

3. Seek out people who will compensate and add to your existing skills and talents and who will uplift you.

4. Look for a support system or create one of your own. Women need support.

5. Identify what makes you happy and what you have to give in life.

6. Visualize success in your mind or with a mood board.

7. Never judge another woman's path. Be cheerleaders to each other.
