Reports and periodic Situation Reports ( SITREPs ) focused on tracking significant weather events and tropical forecasts in the Atlantic region ; disseminating and sharing such information , briefings , and advisories for hazard and event monitoring with District and Division leadership ; drafting After Action Reports ( AAR ) for review and consideration of identified strengths and potential areas of improvement in response planning ; and gaining approved access , training , and increased utilization of the Incident Management Software System ( IMSS ) network through the U . S . Coast Guard and USCG Auxiliary Q-Directorate for
Emergency Management and Disaster Response .
The outlook for the D1SR
Emergency Management department will be equally busy , as it plans for a series of training seminars for the District , focusing on highlights of applying essential elements of the Incident Command System ( ICS ); organizing emergency management tabletop ( TTX ) and other homeland security exercises ; increasing coordination with state , regional , and local offices of emergency management ( OEMs ); planning for increased involvement in area Emergency Operations Centers ( EOCs ); raising awareness of timely and pertinent homeland
ALEX RICO DSO-EM currently works in External Affairs at FEMA Region II and is a member of the region ' s collateral Incident Management Assistance Team ( IMAT ). He has responded to several major disasters including Hurricanes Irma and Maria in the U . S . Virgin Islands , COVID-19 Response in NJ , and the remnants of Ida in NY . As part of the U . S . Coast Guard Auxiliary , Alex received the 2021 Greanoff Inspirational Leadership Award for his work as the Flotilla Commander of the Upper Manhattan Flotilla . He has held leadership positions at Flotilla , Division , District , and National levels . Alex is also a qualified Instructor , Program Visitor , and Vessel Examiner . A New York City native , Alex currently attends NYU ’ s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service where he is working towards his Executive Master ’ s in Public Administration . Alex is the DSO-EM in D1SR .
