The Cardiac Surgery Department at Baylor Dallas is committed to providing quality surgical and patient care. Through our collaborative efforts as a multidisciplinary program, no individual is working independently. Gonzalez-Stawinski, MD Chief of Cardiac Surgery, Chief of Heart Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support; Surgical Director of the Heart Transplant Program – Baylor University Medical Center Valve Surgery A dedicated team of interventional cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, and imaging specialists on the medical staff provide comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis and treatment for patients with valve disease at the Center for Valve Disorders, part of Baylor Heart and Vascular Services at Dallas. The combination of medical quality with advanced technology allows this unique program to handle more complex cases that most other heart centers cannot treat. If the medical team determines surgical intervention is needed, collaboration between the physicians on the medical staff and the referring physician allows the patient to know his or her heart is in good hands at Baylor University Medical Center. Aortic Surgery Aortic surgery at Baylor University Medical Center applies advanced technology and techniques in the treatment of aortic disease, from traditional aortic surgery to minimally invasive procedures such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement and thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair. As a Level 1 trauma center, Baylor University Medical Center sees more complex, emergent aorta cases with higher risk patients. For problems with the aorta that lead to life-threatening emergencies such as acute aortic dissections and other thoracic aortic emergencies, the Emergent Patient Transfer Center is there to provide fast and efficient action. The team of cardiac and vascular surgeons on the medical staff at Baylor Dallas, along with the nursing staff, have the high-level, critical expertise and advanced technology to get the patient the surgical intervention needed. HIGH-RISK MEETINGS: A weekly meeting with Baylor University Medical Center’s multidisciplinary cardiovascular surgical team to review high-risk cases and determine the best care plan for the patient. Because every surgical patient presents a unique set of heart challenges, the cardiac surgical team is committed to providing personalized treatment. The implementation of high-risk meetings have allowed specialists, from all levels of patient care, to weigh in on a specialized treatment plan to help each patient reach his or her advanced levels of heart health. From cardiothoracic anesthesiologists to perfusionists and ECMO specialists, the diverse team of experts is specifically equipped for the most complex heart cases.
