Art & Soul
When it comes to what she’s most passionate
about when creating her art, McCrea offered
great insight:
“I have two main passions when it comes to
art: Color, and Human beings. I love exploring
and studying colors and how they realistically
appear, how they play on emotions, and how
they can influence perception. Humans are
my favorite subject to paint. There is so much
complexity to them. I love the anatomy, but
my favorite part of anatomy is skin and how it
wraps the anatomy. Skin is my favorite texture
to paint because there is so much color variation to express the underlying anatomy and the
personality and emotion hiding within.”
As for what serves as her inspiration?
“Contrast and Life. Contrast in light and shadow, and in color get me excited. The expression
of life (like being alive, living, feeling, experience, and connection) inspires me the most. If a
piece has both high contrast and heavy expression of life, then I usually finish it quicker and is
of better quality.”
