This year, the 6th Annual Brown County Christkindl Market, held at Nashville’ s Coachlight Square the first weekend in December, has expanded to include an extra day. Friday features a special new Winterhaus event for those over 21, with shop owners offering small gifts, or small elements of food and drink.

The market takes place December 4-6 with hours: Friday, 3 to 6 p. m., Saturday, 10 a. m. to 6 p. m., and Sunday 10 a. m. to 4 p. m.
The event features one-of-a-kind shopping, food, and entertainment from pop music to choral to puppetry. The Circle City Sidewalk Stompers, a clown brass band from Indianapolis, returns to the festivities.
The number of vendors has grown to 40 this year, about 10 more than last year, plus six food trucks.
Columbus’ kidscommons is taking over children’ s activities this year.
Founder and coordinator Lisa Hall sees the gathering gaining a whole new foothold.
“ As this has continued, people are doing more advance planning,” Hall said of attendees.“ We now have, for instance, women’ s groups attending as part of a girls’ trip, with everyone dressing alike in costume.
“ It makes my heart happy to see that now people are counting on all this to be a holiday tradition.”
Brown County Civic Planning Inc., an Indiana registered non-profit, supported by other founding sponsors, operates the market. Grants and other support constitute the market’ s current budget of about $ 55,000.
The market is an annual celebration of Christmas during Advent. Initially held in Germany, these popular holiday markets are now held worldwide.
“ It really kicks off the whole month of December here,” said Matt Rust, executive director of the Nashville / Brown County Convention and Visitors Bureau.“ And we’ re excited to see it continue to grow.”
New additions include an expanded stage space for performers and a lighthearted stein holding competition.
