For Cynthia and her children, life leading up to coming
into Our House had its fair share of trials. Before
entering the Our House Shelter program this summer,
Cynthia had just gone through a divorce, lost her job,
and lost her car, all while helping her 14-year-old
son, Tarrance, who is diabetic and needed medical
attention. She found herself with no resources to
help take care of herself and her children, so for the
first time in her life, they became homeless.
“Being a single parent after my divorce made it hard to
save money and pay all the bills by myself with no
support.” Cynthia soon found out that she wasn’t
alone and found that much-needed support at Our
House. After coming into the program, Cynthia got a
full-time Job Training internship in our Little Learners
Child Development Center, where she serves as a
Preschool Teacher. Tarrance started participating in
