THE OMANI VOICE
A group of Omani students in Melbourne, Australia, has established a radio program, called
“The Omani Voice”, that is broadcast in an Australian online electronic radio platform. It is
considered to be one of the first programs to discuss and talk about Omani students
overseas. “The Omani Voice” members’ main purpose was to spread knowledge of
relevance and concern to all Omani students who are abroad.
The Program team members are: Ahmed Al Abdali (Program Supervisor), a PhD student at
Monash University, Khulood Al Makhromi (Broadcaster), MA student at Monash University,
Hazaa Al Fahdi (Broadcaster), BA student at Swinburne University. Alawi Al Mashhoor (Con-
tent Producer), BA student at Macquarie University, Khulood Al Hamhami (Content Produc-
er),BA student at Swinburne University, Fatma Al Farsi (Content Producer), BA student at
Deakin University, Reem Al Rawahi (Program Producer), BA student at Deakin university, and
Abdullah Al Husaini (Program Producer), BA student at Swinburne University.
The first episode of this program attracted a great number of listenerswho were attracted by
the idea of this program. It included a live interview with Dr Hamed Al Alawai, the
Consul-General of the Consulate-General of the Sultanate of Oman. He discussed issues
related to the Omani students in Australia, and the key role played by the Consulate-General
in providing the needed support to all Omani students in Australia. And the rest of the
episode included information and discussions aboutstudying abroad.
There were five episodes that were released during the first season of the program. The
most prominent interview was the one withDr. Abdullah Al Sarmi,the Undersecretary of the
Ministry of Higher Education, whotalked about issues of concern to all Omani students
