Among the 21 departments and institutions of the
Universal Arsenal Museum , founded in 1811 , the Armory
Chamber is in a special position . Annually , the arms
exhibition attracts about 55 000 visitors , it is the most
visited museum of Graz . Moreover , it is the largest
historical arsenal in the world - a living memorial in the
conflict past , whose prejudices are still with us .
In total , about 13 , 400 items represent a collection of
small arms and accessories - it is the largest in the
arsenal . It includes 3 , 877 guns and 4 , 259 pistols , all of
which have different locking systems .
Most of the small arms are from the 16th , 17th and 18th
centuries and are intended for use in military operations .
Weapons were mainly acquired in Augsburg , Nuremberg ,
Suhl , Wiener Neustadt , Ferlach and seminars in Styria .
The artillery collection numbers 704 artifacts : salvo guns ,
mortars , cannons , falconers , and various accessories
In addition to the two falcons , which date back to 1500 ,
there are also three guns of the XVII and XVIII centuries
in the arsenal . Among some of the oldest exhibits is a
forged barrel made in the workshop of Sebald Pögl in
Styria , as well as three organ tools from the last years of
the 15th century .
Most of the cold weapons belong to the XVI , XVII and
XVIII centuries ; a small number of about 1 , 100 sabers
belonging to reserve forces , refers to 1808 / 1809 years .
Most of the weapons were purchased at the Styrian
workshops ; The key areas for the production of blades
were Judenburg and Wase , while the fencers who
provided the blades for the blades were mainly
concentrated in Graz .
Before the appearance of a small firearm , the main
weapon used by the cavalry was cut - off weapons : the
infantry carried only a small amount of cold weapons .
