The Graz Museum is a cultural and historical
museum of the city of Graz . His collections and
exhibitions reflect the history and presence of the
city .
Contemporary History
Museums provide knowledge that has become
irrelevant in real life . They rather want to be
museums of life than cemeteries of objects . For this
reason the Graz Museum as a historical museum
must be decisively modern ; so he always looks at
history from a modern point of view and reports it
with the help of modern means of the day .
Forum for urban sites
As an urban museum , we see ourselves as a platform
for modern urban subjects that make us feel that we
are engaged and perceive the city . In accordance
with the tasks of modern city museums , defined by
the International Committee on Collections and the
Activity of Museums of Cities ( CAMOC ), we want to
be a place to study and discuss modern urban
subjects .
Experiments in civil identity
The Graz Museum is a permanent identification
laboratory that is constantly seeking both scientific
and artistic answers to the question of how
reasonable , and not irrational , identity can be found
at all in the more complex society of the " Europe of
the Regions ". We believe that today ' s city museums
should dispel the myth of a homogeneous citizen
and pay special attention to little or little
represented segments of the population or urban
subjects .
