The Cathedral of Graz ( or Domfarre ) is a
majestic Gothic cathedral , built in the 15th
century and located in the historic center of
the city . Appreciate an impressive , but
minimalistic appearance , with a richly
decorated tower and a golden peak . Discover
the interior of the baroque with magnificent
medieval frescoes . The cathedral was built in
the middle of the 15th century , when the
Emperor Frederick III . rules in the imperial
city of Graz .
In the late Middle Ages the facade of the
cathedral was decorated with original
paintings and frescoes . Today , only one fresco
is preserved - the plague of God . It is
dedicated to the terrible events that occurred
in 1480 in the city . Then Graz suffered from
three ulcers - locusts , wars and plague , and
this fresco , the inhabitants of the city asked
God for mercy .
To enjoy the former splendor of the cathedral ,
explore its interior , restored by Jesuits in the
Baroque style of the 17th and 18th centuries .
When you enter , pay attention to the ornate
altar , ambo and chorus . Admire the
magnificent Organ with its 5 345 pipes .
Visit the two temples of the reliquary of the
left and right hands of the sanctuary . Two
chests of the middle of the 15th century were
originally wedding chests from Mantua , Italy .
The Jesuits used them to preserve the bones
of Christian martyrs .
