Jenn’s Tips for Healthy Holiday Skin

It is sometimes funny to me that I became a skin care therapist. Growing up, I struggled with my skin, acne in particular. My mother was always hearing me cry and complain. She did everything she knew to do back in the 80’s just shy of putting me on prescription drugs. She is really the reason I was introduced to natural and holistic food and products. I remember when growing up she

The holiday season can bring on stress and excitement. There is so much going on. We tend to stay up later, drink more alcoholic beverages, and maybe wear makeup more often than usual. How do you keep your skin looking great for parties and celebrations? Here are a few easy ideas:

Cleanse: Make sure you cleanse your face morning and night. If you are too tired to wash, buy some cleansing cloths to wipe away makeup and oil.

Exfoliate: To keep your skin fresh, exfoliate with a wash cloth, spin brush, or exfoliating product all over. Exfoliating can give you a nice glow as you wash away dead skin cells to reveal fresh skin. Please stay away from scrubbing beads and harsh nuts and seed scrubs.

Protect: Use a protection gel, moisturizer, or makeup with spf during the day. At night, use a nice eye cream to combat lines, puffiness, and dark circles. Use a hydrating product or clearing serum if acne prone.

For the body: This time of year there are a lot of fancy moisturizers and lotions to choose from. They smell great and feel good. However, some may have coloring agents and fragrance that can actually be drying to your skin. Stick with those that have olive oil, vitamin E, and aloe.

Seek a professional. Believe it or not, an Esthetician can save you money by helping you find the right products for your holiday glow and beyond.

Can you relate to some degree?

My skin issues sorely affected my self-esteem in high school and in to my 20’s . I tried so many things to resolve the issues but nothing seemed to be perfect as my teenage hormones raged out of control. I was very active in band and sports but these organized events where the extent of most of my social life. I used to think other kids didn’t call me because of my bad skin. Can you imagine the horrible down beating conversations I was having with myself? I tried my hardest to use makeup. I grew up in the 80’s, always trying to look like Madonna. I had NO clue how to take care of my terrible skin to even begin to
