Annual Town Meeting
Residents will have the opportunity to raise issues with ATC at the Annual
Town Meeting which will be held on Tuesday 10th May 2016 at 7.00pm at
the Village Hall. The meeting is open to all although only local electors are
eligible to take part in any votes.
Town Councillor Vacancy
There is still a vacancy on the Council which will be filled by co-option, and
the deadline for receipt of applications has been extended to Wednesday
11th May 2016. Those interested can review the co-option policy and
download the application form from the documents section of the ATC
website (www.arleseytc.co.uk) or visit the office.
Arlesey Cross
As reported last month, ATC were disappointed that the planning
application for the eastern portion of the ‘relief road’ was approved a
few weeks ago, but the Council is now committed to engaging with the
developers, both directly and through the Neighbourhood Plan, to ensure
that the community’s voice is as loud as possible as we enter this period of
what will be massive change for Arlesey over the next few years.
To that end, Councillors Gravett and Want, the appointed ATC
representatives on the Arlesey Cross Stakeholders’ Group, met with
representatives of CBC and their appointed promoters for the east side
development. The meeting was very positive and ATC is pleased to report
that CBC confirmed that the intention is to start construction of the road
from the A507 to minimise the impact on the High Street for as long as
possible. The timing for the commencement of works is still unclear and ATC
will continue to publish further information as it becomes available.
There is less positive news with regards to development on the west side
of the High Street. Residents will have noticed that an area of land opposite
Lewis’s Dairy has been cleared recently and CBC confirmed in the above
meeting that this is in relation to one of two planning applications that have
been submitted. Neither of these have been registered as yet as the details
are being reviewed by CBC, but it is our understanding that both are likely
to cause significant disruption to the already congested High Street. ATC
will keep a close eye on the situation and will be seeking views from the
community on its response to these applications once more detail is known.
On a general note with regard to planning, residents should note
that CBC is the Local Planning Authority and that ATC, while it can
support or object to planning applications, has limited influence on
planning decisions. Residents concerned with planning issues should
consider lobbying Arlesey’s Ward councillors as they can potentially
exert more influence within CBC. Contact details for Councillors
Dalgarno, Wenham and Shelvey can be found on the CBC website at
