PIXIES CC FIXTURES ROUND UP 2024
POCKLINGTON SCHOOL ( MALCOLM MILNE TROPHY ) In the first game of the season , the teams turned the game red as part of the Pixies continued support of the Red for Ruth Foundation . Local cricketer Rich Williman is flying the flag , running 10k every day for 145 days in a bid to raise money for the charity , guest starring for the Pixies in the Malcolm Milne Trophy . The Pixies got the season underway well , with a strong opening partnership from father and son Freddie ( 26 ) and Tom Taylor ( 27 ). Rich Williman earnt a solid 34 on debut , but it was Charles Rook who did the damage , scoring 50 before being bowled by son Ollie . This left the Pixies with a respectable 185 to defend , despite the best efforts of Ollie Rook ( 19-1-47-4 ).
Henry Perham and young Ted Holland proved a formidable opening bowling pair , reducing the school 16-3 . This left Tom ( 20 ) and Ollie Rook at the crease together , who put on 61 before John Gilbank bowled Tom . Ollie Rook then decided to pick up the tempo , scoring an excellent 83 ( including 7 sixes ) before he was caught in the deep off the bowling of Rob Boddy ( 5-1-10-2 ). The school continued to put up a fight , but eventually the Pixies experience showed , and they bowled the school out for 153 , coming out the victors by 32 runs .
POCKLINGTON CC ( WORSLEY CUP ) The short trip to Pocklington CC saw the sides battle out for the long-standing Worsley Cup . The Pixies won the toss , and elected to field . 14 gruelling overs for Harry Snelling resulted in figures of 6-89 , whilst Ian Scott ( 50 ), Finlay Waldron ( 46 ) and Cam Mitchell ( 47 *) took Pocklington to a strong 238 . In reply , the Pixies looked good with Joe Moore ( 57 ) and Jack Holman ( 70 ) at the crease , but after some tight bowling , the hosts came out the victors by 21 runs .
MOD ( ALASDAIR SWANN TROPHY ) The battle for the Alasdair Swann Trophy undertook a format change this year , becoming a three-way battle between the Pixies , the Men of Derwent , and a Woodhouse Grange Select XI . Unfortunately , the weather won the day , but not before Charlie Lambert amassed his 1000th Pixi run . Congratulations Charlie !
THE FORTY CLUB The final game of the season saw the Pixies take on the Forty Club and Pocklington Cricket Club . The Pixies bowled first , with the standout bowler being John Gilbank , who took 3-26 . Chasing 204 , Matthew Atkinson led the way with 55 , accompanied by Charlie Lambert ( 32 ) and James Sweeting ( 29 ). The Pixies ran out of steam towards the end , falling 8 runs short and ending the season with a loss .

We hope to have more social events over the winter than ever before , so keep an eye out , we ’ d love to see you there . Winter well .
PIXIES ANNUAL TOUR 2024
On Sunday 11 August , the Pixies set off southwards on the 68th annual tour ( the 59th to Kent and Sussex ) for five days of cricket against friendly rivals Holmesdale , Eastbourne , Haywards Heath , Marden , and Hastings .
HOLMESDALE The first day of tour saw the Pixies bat first on what was assured to be a road , but at 41-4 found themselves in trouble . A young middle order all chipped in around veteran Steve Burdett ( 74 ), before the Pixies eventually declared on 281-9 . The Holmesdale top order came out flying , with the Chaplin brothers scoring aggressively . Some tight bowling from Adam Iyer ( 14-2-45-4 ) and some crucial wickets from Rob Boddy ( 8-1-36-3 ) saw the Pixies come out on top , bowling Holmesdale out with just 2 overs to spare .
ANSTY On a baking hot day at Ansty , a young Pixies side scraped to a below par 211 on what looked to be a good deck , with Charlie Lambert top scoring with
57 . A strong Ansty batting lineup proved to be too good for the Pixies , knocking the score off just 2 down with 8 overs to spare .
HAYWARDS HEATH Haywards Heath batted first , with two overseas capitalising on some poor fielding from the Pixies before going on to make half centuries a piece . Their score of 220 looked to be competitive , but definitely gettable for the visitors . A strong start from Henry Bayston ( 66 ) and Adam Iyer ( 23 ), followed by middle order runs from Steve Burdett ( 39 ) and Jack Bolam ( 34 ) left the Pixies in a commanding position at 171- 3 . However , a lower order collapse saw the Pixies fall 5 runs short , eventually being bowled out for 215 .
MARDEN The trip to Marden saw an opportunity for Jack Bolam to extend his lead as top Pixi centurion , adding number 8 to his collection in a fine knock of 110 . A quickfire unbeaten partnership from Howard Johnson ( 45 *) and Freddie Taylor ( 40 *) saw the Pixies post a huge 240 . Marden struggled in response , with Bolam continuing his fine day , taking 3-14 , leaving Marden 184 all out , with the Pixies victorious .
HASTINGS The return to Horntye Park saw the next century of the tour , with Henry Bayston making a fantastic 117 before retiring . Runs throughout the rest of the side saw the Pixies post 212 , which looked to be enough against a young Hastings XI . Early wickets from Ollie Rook ( 8-4-8-2 ) and Freddie Nightingale ( 6-0-22-3 ) put the Pixies in a commanding position , before eventually bowling out Hastings for 111 .
We once again have many people to thank for another successful tour . Our committee , comprising of Marcus Townend , Charlie Lambert , and Matthew Atkinson , for organising the tour and all that goes into it . We express great thanks to the OP Association for their continued support , ensuring that it is financially viable for the younger generation to come on the tour . Thanks to the players who turned up , having one current schoolboy and a handful of recent leavers maintains the long-term future of the club . Final thanks go to our hosts , without whom the tour would not be possible , so thanks to : Holmesdale , Ansty , Haywards Heath , Marden and Hastings ; we will see you next year !
