OP SPORT
Team . OP President , Charlie Lambert ( 01-08 ), Joan Gough ( Ex-Officio 75-77 ) and Honorary OP , Doc Dyson ( Former Staff 88-18 ) did a marvellous job of hosting , looking after kit and capturing the day on camera . There was lots of chatter and recounting of race day experiences whilst well-deserved drinks and bacon butties were consumed .
Harry Isenstein ( 06-17 ) reflected on his run saying , ” Snake Lane is Pock at its best . It ’ s always amazing to see hundreds of supporters lining the route we are so used to running alone in training . It makes it so worth it ! The course was as challenging as ever , made even more gruelling by the overnight rainstorms . But it is always a fun one , and a great way to get involved with the OP community . It ’ s a race I always love to be a part of .”
Stewart Mumby ( 63-71 ) said : “ I always look forward to participating in the Snake Lane race as part of the OP team . To complete the run gives me a great sense of achievement and pride . I gather with my other team runners before , and then after finishing the run we meet in the ‘ Feathers ’. I always find this , which is ran so well by the OPA , to be very friendly and welcoming . I left school a long time ago and it is interesting to hear the affection everyone has for the school and the positive way it has impacted on their lives . The OPA organise many events throughout the year . If you like running , sign up for the OP team for the Snake 10-mile run . It ’ s not as far as you think and it ’ s a lot of fun !”
Angela Curtis ( 10-17 ) commented : “ This marked my second year participating in Snake Lane , and after thoroughly enjoying my first experience , I was looking forward to Sunday . It was lovely to see OPs and teachers post-race and I wholeheartedly recommend Snake Lane to anyone seeking a supportive and uplifting event to be a part of . Until next year !
The date for next year ’ s Snake Lane is Sunday 23 February 2025 . Why not come along and support the OP team ?

OP HOCKEY AND NETBALL 2024
Sadly , due to torrential rain and flooding on the morning of the OP hockey and netball fixture making playing conditions on the astro pitches and netball courts unsafe , the matches had to be cancelled at the last minute . This was very disappointing indeed for both the players and the organisers who had put everything in place ready for the fixture . We very much hope that we can go ahead as normal in 2025 . For those OPs intending to come along to play or support , the date to add to your calendar is Sunday 23 March 2025 . More details will be announced nearer the time .

OPS AT POCK 7S 2024
The 2024 Warrendale Wagyu Pock 7s produced another big sporting and social occasion as close to 3,000 people including a strong representation of OPs enjoyed a jam-packed day of sevens rugby on Good Friday .
As well as the social side of things , the event saw a full Old Pocklingtonians squad joining in the action on the field with their first match in the preliminary round against long-standing rivals , Old Peterites .
Hopes were high for the team with the welcome return of OP regulars Joe Laudage who had travelled from Germany , Sam Noble , Oli Scutt , Ben Maycock , Henry Green , Jack Woodhead , Henry Rodmell , and Jonty Goddard who was fresh off the plane from Australia . Bolstered by the talents of Will Nicholson , Tom Hirst and Northern Exiles stalwarts James Thompson and Sami Eggleston who were on a break from their regular Pock 7s commitments , the Old Pocklingtonians were strong contenders . This played out in the match as OPs dominated Old Peterites in the first half . Darting runs from Sami Eggleston initiated some nice breaks for the OPs culminating in a flurry of tries . Old Peterites gained momentum as the match progressed , but despite racking up a couple of tries , they couldn ’ t close the gap and the OPs went through to the first round of the main competition 22-12 .
After a quick 20 minutes to recover and regroup , the OPs moved to the front pitch to play their next match against last year ’ s runners up , Martin ’ s Minions . The Barnard Castle School old boys dominated from the off , running through the OP defence to score a plethora of blistering tries . With the score line mounting up for the opposition , the OPs struggled to find a way through only scoring once in the 14 minutes of game time . The final score was 38-5 to Martin ’ s Minions who went on to defeat the 2023 winners , Cleveland Cougars , in the final to lift the WS Fowler Challenge Trophy offering some consolation to the OPs .
The MB Herring Plate for first round losers brought a home trophy success with Pocklington beating Jersey Royals 17-7 .
Well done and thank you to all OPs who played this year . We hope to see some of you in the team next year on Good Friday 18 April 2025 , and if any other OPs would be keen to play , please get in touch with Rachel in the OP office .
