Historic Philosophy Feature:

What Becomes History

Secretary Sabrina Bong (Wellington)

But as we sift through ancient texts, searching for the missing pieces of stories, sorting through ripped-out pages and scanning for invisible ink, we should consider the stories unfolding around us, the stories that will become the history taught and maybe even translated in classrooms centuries from now. Where are we falling short? So much is happening around us. Part of being a student of history is being aware of the history being created around you, and being cognizant about the stories that you absorb, retell, and, subsequently, preserve. Take the time to understand and develop your own perspective, and then share it with the world; it is a privilege to be able to do so, and we should not waste it. We might not realize

it yet, but we are the record. We

control this narrative. Don’t let

your silence become another

gap in the narrative for

tomorrow’s historians to

painstakingly fill.
